Golnitz, 102, of Frederick, S.D., went to be with Jesus on Sept. 18, 2018, at Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale, N.D.She was born on Dec. 31, 1915, in Afton Township in Iowa, daughter of Dietrich H. and Margaretha D. (Hinkeldey) Honsbruch. She married Melvin E. Golnitz on Jan. 6, 1937, in Aurelia and he preceded her in death on May 23, 1972.Erna is survived by her four sons: Robert (Myrna) Golnitz of Long Prairie, Minn. and their children Lucy (Jeff) Roste, Liz (Neil) Perryman, Randy (Stephanie) Golnitz, Laura (David) Kruse, Lana (Jon) Henry; Marlin (Shirley) Golnitz of Huntington Beach, Calif. and their daughter Keri Purpura; Darrell (Mary) Golnitz of Blairsville, Ga. and their children Melody Harper and John (Kelsey) Golnitz; David (Naomi) Golnitz of Ramsey, Minn. and their daughter Melody Golnitz; and 13 great-grandchildren.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Walter, Alfred (Eleanora), Herbert Honsbruch; two sisters, Lilie (Honsbruch) Kolpin and Ella Honsbruch; and a grandson, Darren Golnitz.Erna Golnitz was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale, N.D., as well as being very involved in her community of Frederick, S.D. Her hobbies included gardening, flowers, traveling to her sons’ homes in many states and traveling to Hawaii, Senegal Africa and Germany.A celebration of life service was held Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale, N.D., with Pastor Paul Preus officiating. Interment was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, S.D. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, ND; LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League); and The Lutheran Hour.
